GRDA discharge at Grand, Hudson- February 16 2 PM update

Feb 16, 2021

Updated discharge conditions, Tuesday February 16, 2pm:

In response to a directive from the Southwest Power Pool (SPP), the Grand River Dam Authority has begun added discharge of the Grand Lake conservation pool today, Tuesday, February 16. This action is intended to provide for additional electric generation in the SPP footprint during this time of extreme and ongoing winter weather conditions.

It is anticipated that the elevation of Grand Lake will drop to 740 feet and perhaps further if additional discharge is needed. Additionally, ongoing discharges at Robert S. Kerr Dam, per this directive, could result in a Lake Hudson elevation of 615 feet this evening if the Grand Lake discharge cannot be initiated prior to that time. Hudson’s level will be impacted by inflows from the Grand Lake discharge.

At 2PM on Tuesday, February 16:

The public is advised that this reduction in reservoir elevations could impact boat docks located in shallow waters and could have other impacts, such as increased areas of navigation hazards.
