GRDA Police: Man drowns in Illinois River
Tahlequah – The Grand River Dam Authority Police Department is reporting that a 25-year old male drowned in the waters of the Illinois River on Saturday, June 22.
According to GRDA Police, the male, (name/residence unavailable) was pushing a raft through the river, near Riverside Floats, around 6:30 PM when he stepped into a deep section of the river, went under and never resurfaced.
GRDA Police responded to the scene, along with the Oaks, Tahlequah and Illinois River fire departments. The victim was recovered from the water by GRDA Police Officers at approximately 7 PM. They, along with EMS crews immediately began resuscitation efforts. He was transported to a Tahlequah hospital and passed away at approximately 8:30 pm
