GRDA Statement on SPP return to EEA2 Declaration
Feb 15, 2021
On Monday afternoon, February 15, at 2PM, the Southwest Power Pool (SPP) declared a return to an Energy Emergency Alert (EEA) Level 2.
While it is important to note that an EEA Level 3, which includes the possibility of scheduled interruptions of service, is currently not in effect, nor is it necessarily being predicted by SPP, GRDA remains prepared in case SPP does make an EEA Level 3 declaration again.
The current EEA Level 2 requests that all SPP member utilities continue with public appeals for energy conservation. Some conservation recommendations for customers:
- Turn down thermostats to 68 degrees.
- Close shades and blinds to reduce the amount of heat lost through windows.
- Turn off and unplug non‐essential lights and appliances. Avoid using large appliances.
- Businesses should minimize the use of electric lighting and electricity‐consuming equipment.
- Large consumers of electricity should consider shutting down or reducing non‐essential production.
Conservation of energy continues to be a key part of managing the current EEA Level 2 conditions.
Operating conditions may continue to tighten over the next several days because of widespread and extreme cold. GRDA will continue to coordinate with representatives of its customer utility systems on any change in status or directive from SPP.
